2010: My year in review (a personal view)
2010 was a big year! Benjamin joined our family in June. I also joined Google as a Developer Programs Engineer, later transitioning to Developer Advocate, which has been an amazing experience. I've met tons of talented people, traveled a lot, and worked with developers worldwide. I've been busy with projects like creating a Chrome Web Store app, Chrome extensions showcasing the Management API, HTML5Rocks tutorials, and WebIntents. I even got a new LCD TV after years of waiting! In 2011, I'm aiming to code more, release more code, meet more developers, speak at more events, and most importantly, spend more time at home with my family.
A project that I thought was a good idea
I bought iforgive.eu and iforgiv.eu domains hoping to create something cool, but my initial ideas (a flower shop, a public forgiveness platform, and an open email apology site) were flawed due to practicality and potential abuse. Then I thought about a social charity platform ("If Or Give") or a Q&A site, but those didn't pan out either. So now, I'm thinking of just using it to host my .Net 2.0 experiments. Any suggestions? Let me know in the comments!
Updates
I've been busy with side projects lately, so the blog has been quiet. One project should be released this week. Another is a .Net 2.0/ASP.Net 2.0 hosted site for examples from this blog (and to help me learn .Net). It's behind schedule, but will eventually host controls, tutorials, etc. More info soon on the first project. And, btw, the FIELDSET tag is awesome!
Ebay API... Can't really think of much.
I was excited about the eBay API becoming free, hoping to build programs around it. However, I'm struggling to find a compelling project idea. Integrating it into my blog isn't feasible due to eBay's dynamic nature, and static integration wouldn't benefit my SEO. A potential idea is an AJAX interface for the Amazon books I feature, but my lack of commission potential is demotivating. My programs usually serve my needs first, like my AJAX Tagger, which helps me provide more info to readers. If I come up with any good eBay API ideas, I'll share them here.
